 1  DESCRIPTION

The Huawei eSpace U1981 Unified Gateway is a core voice gateway used in the Huawei Unified Communications (UC) Solution. It works with Huawei IP terminals and UC applications to provide IP telephony (IPT) and UC services.  The lightweight U1981 uses a highly-integrated broadband/narrowband design to accommodate 20,000 users per subrack. The U1981 allows for hybrid analog and IP phone networking. It can connect to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or to voice switches in private networks using digital, analog, and broadband Simple Internet Protocol (SIP) trunks. The gateway is equipped with modular function boards to simplify installation and support hot swapping. It can be quickly deployed and easily maintained with graphical configuration toosls.

 2. FEATURES

Huawei’s U1981 is a large-capacity voice gateway with carrier-grade reliability for large-sized voice communication scenarios. It provides a wide range of voice services and supports two-node cluster deployment and geographical redundancy.

IPT application scenarios

U1981 core voice gateways provide call control services network-wide. The branches can use different model eSpace U1900 series gateways as local voice gateways. These local voice gateways support local regeneration to ensure service continuity.
Using narrow and broadband trunks, local voice gateways can connect to external networks, such as PSTN, to implement communication between internal and external (mobile and fixed-line) users. In those cases, SIP phones can connect directly. Analog phones and fax machines can connect through Integrated Access Devices (IADs).

UC application scenarios

Based on IPT application scenarios, UC application servers deploy at the same time to enrich communication channels and improve communication efficiency with a wide range of UC services. Services include presence, Instant Messaging (IM), and multimedia conferencing. In this case, the U1981 works as a core voice gateway.
